It’s not often in our full, fast-paced lives that women have the opportunity to be still, to spend quality time with one another, to care for themselves, and to be renewed in faith. But this fall we are offering you an opportunity to do all of these things at our church’s first annual women’s retreat, and we hope you will join us!
Because it is our hope that this retreat will be a time of true rest and renewal, our time together will be meaningful and yet simple. In other words, the schedule will not be packed with activities, but instead will be centered on two experiences that will refresh our spirits while seeking-out God’s Spirit.
First, registered yoga teacher (and St. John’s member) Sandy Berry Booth will lead a gentle, prayerful yoga practice. This practice will help us to appreciate the God-given gifts of our bodies and the powerful connection between our spiritual and physical selves. No prior yoga experience is required and women of all physical capabilities will be able to participate.
Then, after lunch, Vicar Amanda Highben will lead an interactive time of contemplative prayer, including Lectio Divina. Lectio Divina, or “holy reading”, is a way of meditating on Scripture that traces back to ancient Jewish traditions. Our hope is that after learning about and practicing a few forms of contemplative prayer, participants will feel able to pray in these ways at home.
Download a registration form or pick up one at Sunday mornings prior to 9/15.
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. A catered lunch will also be provided.
Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you on Sept 27!
